Welcome to the Weekly Cultured Gathering! We’re here to share and celebrate our adventures in food fermentation. From recipes to tips & tricks to food preservation – cultured foods are as old as food itself.

Maybe you eat cultured food because of the health benefits. Maybe you make it for the art and science involved. Maybe you believe that this age-old practice of souring dough, culturing dairy, brewing beverages, and fermenting vegetables is wonderfully sustainable. Maybe you feed them to your family because of all of the above.

Whatever draws you to the art of fermentation, this weekly gathering is a place where you can find others working towards the same goals as you are. It is a community.

So please share what’s culturing on your counter. Have a new recipe? What’s your favorite ferment right now? Why do you eat cultured foods? What have you learned that might help others?

    I ‘am very new to homemade cultured foods. I want to learn all I can. I would love to provide them for my family.

      Ann – I’m so glad you’re here. My hope is that we can all learn from one another and encourage one another to get back to the basics with these delicious and healthful cultured foods.

    Sauerkraut with caraway seeds and juniper berries. I hope to start some beet juice and ginger kefir water soon.

    I’ve been experimenting with sauerkraut for a few months, mostly to get the salt content correct for our tastes. I tried pickles; they came out tasty but mushy. I’m going to try again next week: pickling cukes just came back in this week in my area (central FL). I want to try NY deli style pickles and pickles that use the pickling spices but not the sugar.

    Discovered Sandor Katz and just got his book “The Art of Fermentation” a few days ago. Looking forward to learning to work with kefir.
